Local Service Clubs & Groups
Homer offers many service clubs and groups who perform many vital services for the community and other worthy causes. These clubs are a type of voluntary organization where members meet regularly for social outings and to perform charitable works either by direct hands-on efforts or by raising money for other organizations. From our local Boys and Girls Club, which offers elementary and middle schools children a safe educational place to go and study after school, to our Elks Club and American Legion. These organizations, as well as a plethora of other clubs are helping to make this cosmic hamlet by the sea shine. Please see the links below for more information.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska strengthens our communities by providing mentors to all children who need and want a caring adult role model – special friends who can help them expand their horizons, realize their potential and enrich their futures – changing their lives. Bigs provide the additional guidance and support needed to keep a child on the right path toward promise and possibility. Mentoring is about prevention, and provides children with the tools to grow and succeed in a consistent, positive environment. BBBS has a local program in the Homer area. BBH receives the majority of its funding from the statewide Best Beginnings organization, a public- private partnership that mobilizes people and resources to ensure all Alaska children begin school ready to succeed.
Snomads, Inc. is your local snowmachine club on the southern Kenai Peninsula. We groom 58 miles of trails in the Caribou Hills backcountry, which connects to our associate clubs groomed trails. We have our own cabin, which may be reserved by members for their use. Club events are held from October thru April. Acquisition of public trails and trailheads for all users is one way we enhance our communities. Protection for our citizens is done with our Search and Rescue team.
