Heed the Tides & Weather

When fishing or exploring the shores of Homer, the Kenai Peninsula, and Turnagain Arm, observing the tides and weather is crucial. Stay cautious of the high tide differentials, as the sand beneath your feet may soon be submerged or transformed into an island by the tide's flow.

Fishing Licenses

All fishing activities require a sport-fishing license. Visit the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to obtain the appropriate license.

Commercial Fishing

Witness the daily spectacle of fresh salmon, halibut, and other catches being hoisted from the holds of commercial fishing boats in Homer Harbor. Some fish will grace tables in distant locations within 48 hours, while others will be served in Homer's restaurants before the day's end. Fresh, wild-caught Alaskan seafood is highly sought after for its natural, healthy qualities.

The Kenai Peninsula's seafood buyers, processors, and extensive fishing fleet form a vital economic cornerstone for Homer. As fish farming floods markets worldwide, discerning diners continue to seek Alaska wild salmon, a symbol of superior quality and taste.
