Homer Founder's Floor
Called the Founder's Floor, the creation of the 8 foot wide circular stained glass masterpiece in the center of the floor of the Homer Visitor's Information Center was to help raise funds to complete the new building in 2001. With the support of sponsors, the floor raised nearly $50,000. Over 1,000 pieces of glass make up what the artist Pamela Brodie put together as a grand portrayal of life on Kachemak Bay. Representations of the ocean, the sky and the land allude to the various lifestyles of the area. During installation, Brodie quoted "It has to do with the people's livelihoods. The basic theme is that we rely on a healthy environment for our happiness. I wanted it to be something for all ages to enjoy. I wanted it to be easy to understand and make sure it means something to the local people." The Founder's Floor was an idea from the Chamber of Commerce Ways and Means Committee. Committee members Angie Newby, Kate Mitchell, Beth Van Sandt and Ken Quinn were instrumental in putting this project together.
