Boat Side Bet FAQ's

Q. What if everyone on my boat doesn’t want to participate?
A. That’s ok, you and the people who do want to participate can pay the entry fee for the boat.

Q. What if someone on my boat did not contribute to the side boat entry fee but they caught the biggest fish?
A. That fish still counts. See rule #10.

Q. Can I enter my boat into all eleven categories?
A. No! You can only enter FIVE side bets plus the Skunk Bet. Also, you can’t enter the same boat twice within a category, so check with the other anglers on your boat.

Q. Can I bet on somebody else’s boat?
A. Yes! . . . only after 8:30 am and only if it has not yet been bet on.


BOAT SIDE BET RULES:

  • All individuals fishing on board the boat registered in the Tournament must be an entrant of the tournament for the boat to enter side bet.
  • All rules from Winter King Tournament apply to boat side bets and to all anglers on the boat.
  • A boat side bet is a bet placed under the name of the boat in any of the eleven different categories. Maximum number of boat side bets placed under the name of a boat is FIVE plus the Skunk Bet.
  • A boat can have only one boat side bet entry per category.
  • Each boat must appoint a representative to make the payment for the side bet, who must be an angler on or skipper of the boat for bets placed before 8:30 am on the day of the tournament.
  • After 8:30 am, boats not yet purchased will be open to the general public to bet on. The maximum number of boat side bets under the name of a boat is FIVE plus the Skunk Bet.
  • Each boat representative or buyer is responsible for receiving and disbursing the prize money.
  • All bets must be placed before 9:00 am lines in.
  • If a boat enters a side bet category, only fish caught on that boat can be entered under that boat name.
  • Any angler’s fish caught on a boat participating in a side bet can be entered as a side bet fish even if that angler was not a side bet participant.

Boat Side Bet Prizes:

The boat in each category with the largest salmon entered wins 75% of the total entries in that category. Skunk Bet is a bet that your boat won't get skunked - you win if your boat catches a fish. Winning boats share 75% of the pot. If no fish are caught and entered in an individual category of a side bet, a random drawing of all the boats in that category will take place and the winner of the drawing will be awarded 75% of the total boat entries for that category.

All individuals fishing on board the boat must be entered in the tournament for a side bet to be made. Boat Side Bets can be placed any time prior to “lines-in” for people on the boat. The public can place bets starting at 8:30 am. Bets close completely at 8:59 am, Saturday, March 19th.

Prizes valued over $50 to be given away every 15 minutes. Top ten fish awarded big cash prizes. 11th - 20th place awarded merchandise prizes. Boat Side Bet winners in ten categories plus skunk bet. Enter by March 15 to be eligible for Early Bird special drawing for two round trip airline tickets - Homer to Anchorage - on ERA Aviation. Youth Prizes.

Prizes are given away every fifteen minutes and announced over the VHF radio to all who hear. It is exciting and rewarding. Everyone loves to be a part of this event because the winners and not simply those who catch the big fish.
