With the last cruise ship in port Tuesday we can officially say that Summer has come to a close. It was a busy season here at the Chamber and we will have preliminary numbers for the Visitor Center in the next couple of weeks. This year we saw an increase in RV traffic, bear viewers and an increase in visitors in the fall shoulder season.

Your Chamber Staff wants to wish you a HAPPY FORTH OF JULY! We hope to celebrate with you at the parade beginning at 6pm down Pioneer Ave. A special thank you to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the parade, Bay Realty for hosting the grand stand and Dave Eckwert for being the parade MC.
On July 6th the Borough Assembly will be holding a special meeting beginning at 6pm to discus Mayor Pierce's veto of 2 budget items:
- Increased funding for Kenai Peninsula School District and
- Flat funding to Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council (KPTMC) & tourism marketing
Both of these items are important and are in need of our support. The Assembly decision to increase school funding was to allow for additional security measures in the schools. The Mayor's original budget cut KPTMC's funding by 65%, the Assembly voted to flat fund the organisation that markets the Kenai Peninsula.
If you aren't able to attend the meeting you can submit comments to the Assembly here https://www.kpb.us/assembly-clerk/meet-the-assembly scroll to Willy Dunn's photo and click the Click Here to Send a Public Comment to the Assembly.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July,
