Derby runs from May 15th through September 15th ending at 7pm.
All fish must be taken on sport tackle only.
Tickets must be purchased from an official ticket vendor. Derby tickets are $10 per person, per day of fishing.
All participating anglers must have purchased an official derby ticket prior to leaving the harbor. Fish must be caught on the date indicated on the Derby Ticket.
Anglers fishing overnight must possess a ticket for each day of fishing.
Anglers must comply with Federal and Alaska Fish and Game regulations.
In the event of inclement weather and unable to fish, tickets are refundable or may be exchanged for another ticket to be used at a later date. Tickets must be exchanged on the same day of the cancelled trip and must be signed by the captain or the charter company official declaring the cancelled trip. FOR REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES: Anglers MUST get refund or exchange tickets from the Charter Company, Captain or Retail Vendor where they were originally purchased.
Participating anglers must fish from a vessel that departs from and returns to the Homer Harbor on the same voyage.
The following are not eligible for derby participation: 2017 employees or owners of a charter company and all employees of the Homer Chamber of Commerce (HCOC) & Visitor Center.
All entries and awarding of prizes are subject to review and final determination by the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby Coordinator, the Executive Director and/or Board for the Homer Chamber of Commerce. Participants may be subject to a polygraph test. Violation of any rule will disqualify contestant.
The HCOC & Visitor Center reserves the right to: photograph all derby entrants, reproduce any photographs for publicity purposes, and retain all photo rights.
All prize winners are responsible for all taxes & fees associated with prize winnings. Prizes may be subject to withholdings based on IRS requirements and W2-G and W-9 forms are required by all winners. All winners are subject to Child Support Service Verification.
Prize claims for all entrants: If after more than 45 days following the raffle drawing (September 20, 2017), a raffle prize is not claimed, the HCOC or JHD Committee shall conduct a drawing from the non-winning tickets to determine a new prize winner.
ALL fish entries with a derby ticket must be brought in and/or weighed before 7pm on the day caught unless on a documented overnight charter guided trip, then fish must be brought in on the day the angler returns to the Homer Harbor. Participating anglers must be accompanied by a witness (prefer Captain or deckhand) to testify that the fish was caught in accordance with official derby rules. Anglers entering and weighing fish at Derby Headquarters must complete all official forms. Weighing must be done according to standard derby procedure and certified by a weigh-in official.
All tagged fish must be completely intact and the tag untampered. All tagged fish prizes will be mailed to the winners. All current year tagged fish caught are also eligible for the $50,000 GCI tagged fish prize as well as the $10,000 HCOC tagged fish prize.
Big tagged fish prizes, if caught, will be determined and announced no later than September 20, 2017. Tagged fish caught (valued at $250, $500 and $1000), will be announced weekly and will be paid no later than September 20, 2017.
Entrants for the Released Fish prize drawing must complete official registration forms and present a valid derby ticket at Derby Headquarters on the day the angler returns to the Homer Harbor. The angler’s Derby Ticket must be signed by the captain, deckhand or witness), verifying that a live fish measuring 48 inches or more (if possible cell phone picture preferred) was caught and released on the day the ticket was punched for. Released fish prizes are limited to one entry per person per day of fishing.
