Homer Garden Club's 12th Annual Gardeners' Weekend
The 12th annual Gardeners' Weekend, sponsored by the Homer Garden Club, is Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29th. This year's much anticipated events will include an engaging keynote speaker, access to some of the most beautiful and unique gardens Homer has to offer and will conclude with our ever-popular lively and entertaining reception at the Bear Creek Winery.
The weekend's keynote speaker is the personable and knowledgeable Brent Heath, of Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, a family-run business dating back to 1900, located in Gloucester, Virginia. He will speak at 5:45 P.M., July 28th at Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. The author of two books, photographer, lecturer, consultant and educator, Brent will be giving two talks, the first titled One Hundred Years of Daffodils and More and the other, Bulbs as Companion Plants. Both will be accompanied by dazzling slide show presentations.
Sunday, July 29th, from 10 am until 5 pm, five beautiful gardens, selected to offer the full expression of gardening possibilities found in and around Homer will be part of this year’s tours. They will include a large hillside rock garden, a charming township garden, whimsical artistic architecture, perennial displays, flourishing vegetable gardens and farm animals including a Yow! This relaxing day of touring gardens will conclude with a reception at Bear Creek Winery, a festive event shared by fellow gardeners featuring wine tasting, light hors d'oeuvres, door prizes and music provided by the Celtic harp and flute of Starlight.
