Throughout the month of June, we came together to celebrate our favorite fish, the halibut, in the #HomerHalibutFestival.
Homer Halibut Derby June 1-30, 2023
From June 1-30, participants purchased daily derby tickets for the chance to win the grand prize for the largest halibut. If they chose to release a barn door-sized fish, they were entered to win a $2,000 prize. The tournament headquarters and weigh-in area were at Buttwhackers Fillet Company, on top of Ramp 1 behind the Salty Dawg Saloon.

Big 'But Ball June 3, 2023
We danced our hearts out at the inaugural Big 'But Ball on June 3, 2023, at The Elks Lodge. This event honored the halibut industry and featured guest DJ Blaque, a delightful fish & chips dinner, door prizes, and much more!

Summer Solstice Festival June 21, 2023
On June 21, 2023, we celebrated the ultimate Summer Solstice Festival and Concert at the Homer Deep Water Dock. The event featured talented U.S. Military Veteran Performers from Operation Encore, delectable cuisine from food trucks, and a lively beer garden.
Activities for the kids and the epic Deckhand Skills Competition, where contestants showcased their agility and expertise, added to the festivity!

Reflecting on the Event:
The first annual Homer Halibut Festival Derby is now a fond memory. Congratulations to Connie Johns, who landed the largest fish weighing 143.20 pounds. Unofficial results indicated that Connie would win around $2,160 for her catch.
The winner of the Released Fish category was Dave Grundies. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the anglers who participated in the Derby, especially Ayjan, George, and the entire crew at Buttwhackers, who managed the tournament headquarters and weighed all the fish.
